Vitalik Proposes Gas Cap for Ethereum Security

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and researcher Toni Wahrstätter have proposed EIP-7983, a new standard to cap individual transaction gas usage at 16.77 million. This aims to enhance Ethereum’s security by mitigating denial-of-service (DoS) attack vectors and improving network stability. The cap will also boost compatibility with zero-knowledge virtual machines (zkVMs) by encouraging transactions to be split. While most transactions are unaffected, those exceeding the limit will be rejected, contributing to a more predictable and resilient Ethereum network.
