Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a new scaling roadmap aiming to increase the gas limit of the L1 network without affecting decentralization and security. Adjusting the gas limits will make data storage more expensive, but execution efficient and more affordable.
The proposal advocates for the implementation of stateless nodes, which will store only a select subset of blockchain data to reduce storage overload. Buterin also calls for the implementation of Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 444 to limit the storage of historical data on nodes to 36 days. By implementing this, nodes can work at full capacity and more efficiently.
