Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi has proposed the idea of allowing ships that pass through the Panama Canal to expedite their passage by paying with Bitcoin.
During a panel at the Bitcoin 2025 conference held in Las Vegas on May 29, Mizrachi suggested that cargo vessels could shorten their wait times in line for the crucial shipping route by making payments in Bitcoin.
“What if you get a benefit for using Bitcoin — your ship could have a quicker passage if you pay in Bitcoin,” Mizrachi remarked while discussing the topic with El Salvador Bitcoin policy figures, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert. The panel was moderated by Mike Peterson, the director of Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador.
