Argentina’s president Javier Milei has been involved in another scandal after shutting down the unit set up to investigate the LIBRA scandal, a cryptocurrency scam in which he and some members of his party were involved in. According to the Official Gazette report, the unit was dissolved based on a decree signed by the President and the Justice Minister, Mariano Cuneo Libarona, after they concluded the investigative unit had completed its mission.
The move was met with heavy criticism, with many asserting that the president is trying to obstruct justice. There has been no official statement from the president or his cabinet members regarding the issue.
The controversial LIBRA cryptocurrency, dubbed “Cryptogate” was introduced by President Javier Milei on his X account on February 14, 2025. The token peaked two hours after, with only a few wallets profiting. Over 40,000 accounts lost their investment.
