Texas Police Cut Open Crypto ATM to Recover Scam Funds

Police in Jasper County, Texas, cut open a crypto ATM to retrieve $25,000 lost to a scam. A family was reportedly tricked by someone pretending to be a government employee and told to deposit funds into a Bitcoin address via the machine. Sheriff Chuck Havard defended the action, stating they used “every resource” to protect citizens from scammers, though some crypto users questioned the legality of damaging the ATM.
